Joffre Lakes

To say that Joffre Lakes is stunning would be an understatement! Rob and I decided to take some well earned vacation this week and thought Whistler would be the perfect overnight getaway! We visited the Scandinavian Spa (which was unreal – and a must do) and spent the night at our friends condo in Whistler. The next morning we were up early and headed toward Pemberton and Joffre Lakes Provincial Park to experience first hand the awesomeness of this hike we have heard all too much about!

It took us about 2.5 hours to get to the third (upper) lake (mostly because I stopped every few minutes to get photos… I was clearly excited), and we took an extra hour to venture around the lake to the campground where there were less people, and many more spots to have our picnic! Surprisingly the hike back down was very fast; taking us only an hour (but we didn’t stop at all for pictures or breaks). Needless to say, I will be back!

The Chief!

It only took me a little over 3 YEARS to finally hike the chief; and it was worth the wait! I will admit that I was huffing and puffing a little throughout the journey to the summit, but who wasn’t?! Right?! The view from the top (Peak 1) is simply breathtaking; and was the perfect spot to enjoy our lunch before heading back down! Nonetheless, below are a few pics from today’s adventure!

Abbotsford Tulip Festival

Decided to go on a little road-trip adventure today, and ended up at the Abbotsford Tulip Festival! The sun was shining (and I have the burn to prove it), and the crowds were out in full-force to enjoy one final day of the beautiful tulips! Below are my favourite shots from the day – ENJOY!

Baby W Photoshoot

I was recently asked to do a photoshoot for some friends and their newborn baby, and although it was a completely new type of photography for me, and I was totally overwhelmed with nervousness, I simply couldn’t say no. After a weekend of research, Pinterest, and “Googling” I finally felt (somewhat) ready to start snapping some photos. Thankfully when I arrived my friends made me feel totally relaxed and understood that it was a new experience for me. The baby was awake so we did some “lifestyle” (candid) shots, and it only took a few minutes before I was in a complete sweat; which I had read from many blogs that “if you aren’t sweating when doing a photoshoot of a baby, you aren’t doing it right!” After that we moved into some more posed photos and had fun testing out a few things; some of which worked, and some didn’t!

All in all, I learned a lot, and feel like I will have a better idea of what to do for next time! So… who’s next?! 😛

Granville Street Bridge Views

Ended up on a little stroll along the Granville Street Bridge last night and had to stop at a few spots to capture (what I think) are some funky photos! I’ve been trying to get a picture of the painted silos for a while but could never find an angle that I liked; but I like how this angle allows you to see the city in the background. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to the weather warming up a little more so I can get out to take more night shots (well, so I can take more and not be cold).

Patty and Selma Visit Vancouver

Okay, so obviously Patty and Selma from “The Simpsons” didn’t visit Vancouver, but the next “best” thing did; the Simpson Sisters!! While they aren’t twins, they certainly look like it! And given that they were both recovering from a nasty cold and both had a deep raspy voice I decided to call them Patty and Selma for the weekend! I also decided to make them my models so I could practice some portrait photography and play around with my camera settings. If you have any feedback please share it with me; it’s the only way to learn!

Oh, and as always, my regular model joined in on our adventures too! 😉

Back In The Habit

It’s been wayyyy too long since I last captured some cityscape pictures, so it felt great when I managed to get back into the habit last night! It was so mild outside and the skies were the clearest they had been in a while, so I had no excuses! I also realized just how therapeutic photography can be for me. My work life has been absolutely insane lately, and I can’t seem to keep up with it all, but when I get behind my camera and find the perfectly framed shot I somehow forget about the endless to-do lists and countless emails. Speaking of which, I should probably get back to answering a few! Hope you enjoy!

Lynn Canyon

It still amazes me, even after living in Vancouver for three years, just how beautiful this city is. The ability to hop in your car and be in the mountain, or lounging on the beach (when it isn’t freezing cold in the middle of January), or exploring a nearby park; the options are limitless. Having said that, my current favourite place to take friends and family who are visiting is Lynn Canyon. It is free to visit, there is an amazing suspicion bridge, and a small hike that is suitable for nearly everyone. Rob and I were bored last weekend and looking for something to do, and after driving around for a few minutes in North Van (we may or may not have gotten a little lost) we somehow ended up at Lynn Canyon. It was a beautiful day so we decided to hop out and go for a stroll. Below is a few shots from our short hike! Enjoy!
