Purple and Pink Skies

As I was driving down Cambie street, and after spending the day shopping for my belated Christmas celebrations, I simply had to go check out the sunset. The sky was radiant with pink and purple, and I had my camera in the back seat! I wracked my brain to think of a vantage point to capture the city and sky, but couldn’t think of anything so decided to pull over at 12th and Yukon to snap a picture. After a few minutes I thought I would go down to Granville Island but on my way came across the most amazing view and yet again had to stop to capture what I saw! Take a look and let me know what you think!

PS – I’ve included the location below of where I captured the second picture from.

Toronto!

I recently spent some time visiting my sister in Hamilton, Ontario, and even though it is itself a beautiful city, I simply had to make the trek into Toronto for a day of “photo-adventuring” around the city. Thankfully my sister joined me; she drove and I navigated. I had done my research so we knew of a few places we wanted to go, but the most exciting locations were the ones we hadn’t planned!

Home / McAdam Railway Station

Being from a very small town in rural New Brunswick I am incredibly proud of where I come from! And am equally proud of my town’s only claim to fame; the McAdam Railway Station! I went up to the station after being in Fredericton for the weekend so I could get a nice nighttime shot as a Christmas present for my aunt (and because it was calling for rain for the next few days). It was incredibly cold, but my patience paid off and I managed to capture these two photos; and I’m so happy that I surprisingly caught a small glimpse of the Northern Lights. Needless to say, my aunt was very happy with her Christmas present (especially because I also managed to locate the perfect frame to go with it).

Ultimate Frisbee

As always I spent some time in Fredericton, NB over the holidays so I could visit friends and reminisce about my university days. A close friend was playing in an ultimate frisbee tournament on campus, so I decided it would be a great opportunity to practice my skills at capturing some action-shots. The lighting in the facility was quite dim, so I was forced to turn my ISO up (which I generally don’t like to do), but I was left with no other option. Nonetheless, I’m satisfied with the result!

Niagara Falls

My sister and I found some free time in our calendar’s to make a quick road trip to Niagara Falls. We both hadn’t been since we were very young and wanted to check things out again as adults… and unfortunately we were a little let down. Niagara Falls kind of feels like a cheap version of Vegas (even though neither of us have ever been). All of the shops, stores, and restaurants appear very “gimmicky” – and business try to pull you in with their extra sparkle… but we certainly weren’t fooled. The actual “falls” however were a completely different story. The impressive power of the rushing water as it sprints past you toward the horseshoe shaped cliff is nothing short of impressive; and no gimmicks are needed! One brave soul climbed the fence to get a little too close for comfort, but thankfully he managed to safely return from his trek. All in all, if you haven’t been to Niagara Falls, you should definitely check it out; just don’t plan to stay for more than a day.
